Gardai arrest driver after checkpoint mistake led to discovery of multiple offences

Gardai have arrested a driver after they turned away from a checkpoint before they were found to be breaking multiple rules.

The motorist was spotted by officers in Callan, Co Kilkenny attempting to evade their MIT checkpoint.

Gardai followed the motorists and upon pulling them over found they were breaking a number of laws.

The driver tested positive for drugs in their system and were displaying false discs.

They will now appear in court at a later date.

A garda spokesperson said: “The driver of this vehicle was displaying false discs and was arrested by Gardai from the Roads Policing Unit after turning away from a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint in Callan. He failed a roadside drugs test. Charges to follow regardless, for fraudulent discs, further charges in the event of his blood sample coming back positive for drugs.”
