Met Eireann pinpoints two hottest areas as Ireland to be blasted by 21C heat on warmest day of the year

Ireland is set to see its hottest day of the year so far this weekend as temperatures heat up, reaching glorious highs of 21 degrees.

Met Eireann has pinpointed the areas likely to see the best of the conditions as scattered showers subside on Friday.

The midlands and the west will most likely see the warmest of the top temperatures and sunshine. However, the mini-heatwave is expected to spread throughout the entire country from Friday onwards.

Long sunny spells will arrive on Friday with just a few showers, mainly affecting Atlantic coastal counties.

Temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees, with the east to see the warmest.

Things will generally be dry on Friday night with just isolated showers. Areas of mist and fog may form.

Again, it will be mostly dry on Saturday but with plenty of cloud around during the day.

A few showers will develop in the afternoon, but the best of the sunshine is expected in coastal areas, and the evening will turn out sunny in many areas.

Saturday will be the cooler of the three days with maximum temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with a mostly light southwest or variable breeze.

Sunday is the day to head to the beach as things will begin to really heat up.

There will be long spells of warm sunshine across the country with just a small chance of an isolated shower.

Top temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees generally but slightly cooler in some coastal areas as sea breezes develop.

It looks set to be mild and humid on Sunday night, with the chance of a few heavy showers breaking out later on.

People have been advised to get out and enjoy the sunshine as things are expected to take a ‘nasty turn’ into next week.

Heavy rain and a drop in temperatures are predicted for the country as early indications suggest showers will extend across the country on Monday, with further spells of rain at times throughout next week.

A forecaster said: “Huge uncertainty around next week with latest models showing a risk of a nasty low system passing close to Ireland next Tuesday on ECWMF model but the GFS model doesn’t develop this really. Take any forecast for next week as uncertain for now.”
